Jungle Party Tonight - 1st grade musical
Thursday, January 12 at 7PM
Alton Darby Elementary
I am excited to let you know that 1st grade will have a musical in January!
Costumes should be simple, and comfortable. Please do not feel like you need to get fancy. Students will only wear their costume for the evening parent performance (there will be a day performance for the school on Thursday January 12 at 10:15AM).
There will be “special parts” for some students. They will be short reading parts and a few solo singing parts. I will let you know if you child has one for these parts in the middle of December.
The 1st grade musical is the first time, for most children, at Alton Darby to have a performance experience on a stage. For many of our kiddos the most important point of the show is to perform for and impress you, their parents. Not that they have the coolest costume or that they got a special part. In my opinion, it is one of sweetest and awesome things to see because it is so pure and comes from a love for you.
How are "Special Parts" chosen? - Every child that is interested in a special part will “try-on” that part for his or her class. Each child who does a good job, gets their name in the “hat” and as we get closer to January I draw names out of the hat for each part and then the parts are offered to students who decide to accept or decline the part. If child would like to prepare to “try-on” a part in class, I would be happy to provide them with the words to the songs and the reading parts to work on at home. I can also make copies of the music if you send me a blank CD-R (make sure you don’t get a DVD-R). Please put your child’s first and last name as well as your child’s teachers name on to the CD-R and bring it to me in my classroom.
Dress / Costume –(for the evening performance only)
I will be asking families to provide their own creative costumes. Students can dress as safari tourists, hikers, or any zoo animal or insect (lions, monkeys, kangaroos, butterflies, parrots, tigers etc.)
Michael’s Craft store on Rome Hilliard Road commonly has some animal visors and hats that would work as a costume very well.
School-day performance - Thursday, January 12th - at 10:15AM in the gym. No costume for this performance. Parents are welcome to attend this performance.
Evening performance - Thursday, January 12th –students arrive at 6:45 PM.
Please report to the music room in costume.
Performance is set to begin at 7:00 PM.
